Wendt to the Scenic South Coast
The South Coast and Southern Highlands is Sydney’s hidden secret.
The region is filled with historic towns and villages, spectacular ocean views, waterfalls, vineyards and wineries, densely forested National Parks and weathered sandstone valleys. Passing Botany Bay the birthplace of the nation we travel south via the coastal Princes Highway, adjacent to the Royal National Park.We introduce this beautiful part of Sydney to you from Stanwell Park where Hang Gliding enthrals spectators.
Stopping at the coastal city of Wollongong for morning tea, we then continue to the suburb of Berkeley to visit the largest Buddhist Temple in the Southern Hemisphere, the Nan Tien Temple.
We continue our coastal drive south to the scenic coastal town of Kiama to view the famous rock formation, the Blowhole. Through Gerringong and Gerroa to the Sir Charles Kingsford Smith memorial lookout taking in the views of spectacular Seven Mile Beach, the location of the first Trans Tasman commercial flight to New Zealand in 1933.
We discover the vineyards and wineries of the Shoalhaven Coast officially declared a wine growing region in 2002, in the vicinity of historic Berry. The ideal place for wine tastings and lunch where you have the choice of any two courses from an array of vineyard restaurants. Passing through Berry, we commence our ascent to the top of the Southern Tablelands through the town of Kangaroo Valley and by way of the Hampden Bridge. Built in 1898, one of the oldest suspension bridges in Australia.
Passing through the Morton National Park, we visit Fitzroy Falls encased in the rugged sandstone Yarrunga Valley. The steep sided cliffs and eucalyptus forested valleys, are as spectacular as the famous valleys of the Blue Mountains!
Concluding our tour to the Southern Highlands we visit the commercial centre of the region, Bowral. Founded in the 1860’s and priding itself as the home of cricketing legend Sir Donald Bradman and the Annual Spring Tulip Festival held in September.
